A second defendant in a murder of an elderly man accepted a plea deal.
40-year-old Angel Mario Garza will be serving 45 years in a state prison. He plead guilty to the lesser offense of murder.
Garza, is Monica Melissa Patterson’s co-defendant. Patterson was sentenced to life in prison in November 2017 for the murder of 96-year-old Martin Knell Sr. Garza allegedly suffocated the victim in January 2015, while Patterson stood by. All to gain access to the elderly man’s estate and money.
During the sentencing hearing today, Garza’s family broke down in tears, as he admitted to the judge he did wrong.
“I messed up. I think the time I got I deserved.” He said.
We reached out to the victim’s family who was in the courtroom as well. They declined to comment. Garza is eligible for parole, but due to his legal status, he will be deported once he is released.
