City of San Benito Hosting Texas Independence Day Festivities and Mock Battles

On March 2, 1836 Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Many across the state celebrate this Texas Independence Day with battle re-enactments and festivities.

Right here in the Rio Grande Valley, some are getting ready for celebrations this weekend. On March 4th the city of San Benito will host the Texas Independence Celebration. The following week the city will host re-enactments of famous Texas battles.

They plan to finalize the event with the signing of a mock declaration of independence.
