Local News

CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (KVEO) — The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced a detention officer and a civilian employee have tested positive for COVID-19.

The department said on a post the detention officer at the downtown jail was last on duty on June 6.

The post adds he was not assigned to an area interacting with inmates. Staff the officer was in contact with have been notified and quarantine, results are pending.

Also, an employee of the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center (CRDC) in Olmito also received positive results. The post mentions the employee was last at the facility on June 8. Staff members that were in contact with the employee have been quarantined and are pending results.

We have been fortunate not to have any inmate test positive for COVID19. We are well aware that we are not immune to this disease. We are taking all necessary precautions to keep our staff and our prisoners as safe as possible.
