Alex Herbst, a meteorologist and reporter for CBS 4, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the age of 26.
Alex joined the StormTracker 4 Weather Team in June of 2018, after graduating from Mississippi State University with a master’s degree in Geosciences.
He had a passion for science and weather, with an uncommon ability to combine those two in an informative, interesting and entertaining way.
Alex was especially proud of his special report in May on the effect of climate change in the Rio Grande Valley. He also loved reporting a story about unearthing millions-years-old volcanic ash in Starr County.
Alex was also a passionate Philadelphia sports fan, often touting his beloved Eagles while engaging in good-natured teasing with the many Dallas Cowboys fans in the CBS 4 newsroom.
Our thoughts are with his family. We will miss him terribly.
