Two undocumented immigrants nearly drowned after attempting to cross a water filled canal near Mission.
On Thursday, McAllen agents working near the area said they received information of a group of suspected illegal aliens traveling north of the Rio Grande and responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, agents searched the area and said they saw several individuals attempting to swim across a canal. They were then informed by members in the group of two males that nearly drowned, according to a press release.
A Border Patrol agent/ Emergency Medical Technician responded to the scene.
The man was later identified as a Salvadoran national, informed the release.
According to authorities, the man lost consciousness while in the canal, and another man initiated CPR to help him regain consciousness.
The BPA /EMT assessed the male from Salvador and requested an ambulance to take him to a local medical facility, according to the release.
Agents said they requested an ambulance for the second man, a Guatemalan national, for precautionary measures.
