U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Los Indios Port of Entry seized nearly 84 pounds of alleged marijuana that was hidden in a green 2000 Jeep Cherokee and arrested a man from San Benito in connection with the drug smuggling attempt.
“Narcotics interceptions, whether they are large or small impact our communities. Our officers are to be commended for their diligent work and their attention to detail, which allows them to detect anomalies within vehicles that leads to the discovery of illicit narcotics,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry.
The incident happened on May 6, at the Los Indios Port of Entry after CBP officers encountered a 45-year-old man from San Benito. With the use of a imaging inspection system the individual was detained after officers discovered illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. A total of 42 packages of marijuana were removed from the vehicle with an approximate weight of 83 pounds, which carry an estimated street value of $17,000.
CBP Office of Field Operations seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
