BROWNSVILLE, Texas (KVEO) — The city of Brownsville and Hidalgo County have been awarded grants to help prevent, prepare and respond to residents dealing with homelessness.
According to a release, Brownsville will be receiving $1,964,765 and Hidalgo County will be receiving $4,242,374.
“Homeless individuals are one of the most at-risk groups for transmission of this deadly virus, with many in the homeless community being disproportionately impacted,” said Congressman Filemon Vela in the release. “I am grateful HUD is providing funds to offer much needed support to South Texans struggling to maintain a roof over their heads during these unprecedented times.”
The funding was awarded through the emergency Solutions Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
