WASHINGTON (KVEO) — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez announced funds have been allocated for Hidalgo County through the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
According to the release, the $151,582,672.50 is required to be used for public health costs from the pandemic.
“Our local governments and municipalities are bearing the brunt of this crisis and need assistance,” said Congressman Gonzalez in the release. “These federal funds will help many in Hidalgo County that have suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is still much work to do for other cities and counties in the 15th District of Texas. My mission to ensure that every city in my district is receives the funding they need to resume operations for their citizens.”
According to the release, funding provided through the CARES Act covered states and large communities, however, cities and counties with less than 500,000 residents don’t meet the population needed to receive assistance.
