A candidate running for Edinburg City Council is asking the Texas Secretary of State to make sure there is a fair and transparent election in November.

Carlos Jasso, who is running for City Council Place 3, submitted a letter to Ruth R. Hughs on September 16, asking to “assign staff to oversee every aspect of the City of Edinburg’s November 2019 election.”

He stated in the letter regarding the arrest of Ludivina Leal, the City Secretary for the City of Edinburg. Leal was recently arrested on an illegal voting charge.

He also mentioned the arrest of more than 20 other people, “stemming from voter fraud for the City of Edinburg’s 2017 election.”

He added that by having staff oversee the election, “this will guarantee the rights of our citizens and provide a fair and transparent election.”

No word yet if the Texas Secretary of State will assign staff to oversee the election.
