Cameron County Leaders Raise Funds for Port Isabel Athletes

Cameron County elected officials came together for a unique lunch. For over 35 years, elected officials meet to raise money for Port Isabel athletes. They raise funds to help Port Isabel Athletics with transportation needs. We spoke to the event organizer to tells us more about this initiative.

Justice of the Peace Benny Ochoa III, “Whatever money that is leftover at the end of the year, we give out 6-8 $500 scholarships. This is why I invited them because they always help with the donations.”

Over 200 students have been said to be scholarship recipients in these past 35 years. Today’s guest of honor was Hugo De La Cruz.
