Bullfighting In The Rio Grande Valley

Local News

It’s a new twist to hundreds of years of tradition.

They call it bloodless bullfighting.  Iconic Mexican bullfighters are looking to settle in the United States.

We were invited to join a private festival to witness the practice in La Gloria, Texas.

The practice is like traditional bullfighting with the exception that the animal is not pierced or killed at the end of a match. Afterwards, the animal is sent to rodeo or given a chance to live elsewhere.

Bullfighter Jose Manuel Ayala tells us “The plan is to bring the bullfighting culture without harming the bull. Without blood, Like they say here, bloodless.”

We were invited by Ole entertainment, a group made of some of Mexico’s top bullfighters and livestock experts. They challenged News Center 23’s Alfredo Cuadros into the ring.
