Brush Fire Burns More than 7,000 Acres

Local News

A huge fire continues to consume brush and grassland in Willacy County.

The blaze which started Saturday night (January 21) has already burned more than 7,000 acres on a ranch, northwest of Encino.

Willacy County officials tell us the fire is only about 50% contained. Helicopters are being used to get a bird’s eye view of the fire. The fire which started out small quickly grew, because of strong winds over the weekend.

We have a crew in the area and will bring you more on News Center 23 at 10 p.m.
