This month, SpaceX plans to launch a red car to orbit the red planet, and a space enthusiast from Brownsville believes she may have inspired the mission.
“Space X is more than a leader in our space innovation, it is also an important source of inspiration for many,” said Evelyn Janeidy Arevalo.
Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX is the person Arevalo from Brownsville admires the most.
One of his goals in life is to send humanity to Mars one day, but before SpaceX embarks on that groundbreaking journey in year 2024, Musk wants to send the “silliest thing” imaginable to orbit Mars.
That’s when Arevalo suggested taking a Tesla to Mars on social media, and Musk, the CEO of Tesla, replied to her suggestion.
“I feel really happy that he accepted suggestions and is incorporating them to his amazing plans,” Arevalo said, adding that she is thrilled that the space mogul, who has millions of followers on Twitter, replied to her tweet.
“He is probably the last person on Earth who needs any crazy ideas,” she said.
SpaceX plans to launch a red Tesla Roadster atop the debut flight of the Falcon Heavy rocket, targeted for January 2018 from Kennedy Space Center.
“I really hope the launch is successful good luck to SpaceX,” Arevalo said.
The first launch of SpaceX from Boca Chica beach is also planned for this year.
