An organization in Brownsville is asking of the community’s help to give back to students struggling with homelessness.
The Texas Exes Chapter Brownsville Chapter is holding a “Pillow Drive,” to collect items that will benefit those students.
The chapter partnered with the Brownsville Independent School District’s (BISD) ‘Youth Connection Project’ – a department within the district that prioritizes homeless students and their needs.
Right now, there are over 1,600 kids that are classified homeless in district schools, ranging anywhere from 3-year-olds to seniors in high school.
The department has access to families in need and every donated item will go straight to them.
“This is a really opportune time. February is a project month with the Texas Exes and we decided to go this route and partner up with Brownsville ISD,” Michael Moreno, Perez Elementary School principal and Texas Exes Chapter member, says.
The Texas Exes are collecting pillows for their students and snack bag items like canned goods, fruit cups, granola bars and more.
This is the final week of the drive.
If you’re interested in donating, you can do so at the main BISD building on Price Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
