Brownsville PUB warning customers of door-to-door scam

Local News

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board warning customers about salesmen going door-to-door claiming to work for the utility.

This image was provided by a customer and sent to BPUB after those individuals were reportedly posing as utility workers. According to reports, those individuals were selling water filtration products and requesting access into the customers’ homes to inspect their water system.

BPUB wants to make it clear they will never show up to your home selling any products.

Cleiri Quezada, BPUB Communications, “They are not working for Brownsville PUB. We do not have a contractor selling water filtration systems to our customers or have ever had contractors doing that. We want to let our customers know to never let anyone inside their home to install or to inspect anything without prior scheduled appointment.”

BPUB also advises customers to never share any personal information including social security numbers, credit cards, or your name. To avoid falling for these scams they recommend asking for their badge which must have a BPUB logo or call them to verify.
