Brownsville Breaks Ground on Airport Expansion

Local News

It’s official Brownsville is getting a new multi-million dollar airport.

The FAA and city of Brownsville kicked off the construction for the 60,000 square foot terminal.

That’s nearly doubling the size of the existing airport. Currently three aircraft can park but the new airport will have 4 commercial aircraft parking areas.

Javier Huerta, Architect says, “This airport needs to reflect where Brownsville was, where we are now and where we are going as a city so it’s not only where we were but it also has two say something about where we’re heading.”

The construction will be in 3 phases and is expected to be complete in late 2018 or early 2019.
