Border Patrol agents found two people dead on Saturday — one floating in the Rio Grande and another in rural Brooks County.

At about 9 a.m. Saturday, agents from the Falfurrias Station responded to a ranch in rural Brooks County, according to information provided by the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

They found a man from El Salvador dead on the property, which is commonly crossed by migrants seeking to avoid Border Patrol. The body was taken to the Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office in Laredo.

About 30 minutes later, agents from the Weslaco Station discovered a dead man floating in the Rio Grande near Hidalgo.

Firefighters pulled the man from the river. He wasn’t carrying identification.

“RGV Sector urges immigrants to not jeopardize their lives by illegally entering the United States or by attempting to circumvent a checkpoint,” according to a news release.

Agents ask anyone who observes suspicious activity to call (800) 863-9382.
