Border Patrol stops two smuggling attempts, arrest convicted murderer

EDINBURG, Texas (KVEO) — Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol Agents arrested a man convicted of murder. Additionally, they stopped two smuggling attempts.

According to a press release, agents working in Brownsville arrested the man after he crossed the Rio Grande. A record check revealed he had been arrested in 1991 by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and convicted for murder.

The release adds the subject received 15 years. He also had a criminal history, with arrests for burglary, assault of a peace officer and driving while intoxicated.

The subject was referred for Federal prosecution, said the release.

In addition, agents from Rio Grande City and Brownsville seized more than 170 pounds of marijuana on two separate incidents.

The release states one incident took place near La Casita, Texas.

There, agents discovered abandoned bundles of marijuana. No suspects were found in the surrounding area, said the release.

The second event resulted in the arrest of two Mexican nationals attempting to smuggle marijuana. According to the release, the subjects were arrested near Brownsville.
