Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican sex offender Sunday near Encino.

Agents arrested 27-year-old Alberto “Spooky” Aguilar — a moderate-risk sex offender registered with the Texas Department of Public Safety — near Encino, according to the federal criminal complaint against him.

“The defendant claims to have illegally entered the United States on Oct. 25, 2015, near Hidalgo, Texas,” according to the criminal complaint. “Records checks revealed the defendant was formally deported/excluded from the United States on Dec. 11, 2012, through Laredo, Texas.”

Aguilar was convicted of three counts of online solicitation of a minor, according to the criminal complaint and Department of Public Safety records, which list Aguilar’s nickname as “Spooky.”

Federal Magistrate Judge Peter E. Ormsby charged Aguilar with illegal re-entry.

Aguilar remains in federal custody. His attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
