Border Patrol agents arrested a Salvadoran sex offender Wednesday near Sullivan City — less than a month after the federal government deported him.
Agents arrested 36-year-old Wil Alberto Gomez-Machado near Sullivan City, according to the federal criminal complaint against him.
“The defendant claims to have illegally entered the United States on December 30 near Hidalgo, Texas,” according to the criminal complaint. “Record checks revealed the defendant was formally deported/excluded from the United States on Dec. 4, 2015, through Houston, Texas.
Details about Gomez’s criminal history weren’t immediately clear.
Gomez was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to the criminal complaint.
The Texas Department of Public Safety sex offender registry, though, lists the charge against Gomez as aggravated sexual assault.
Agents charged Gomez with illegal re-entry. Magistrate Judge Peter E. Ormsby ordered him held without bond.
An attorney for Gomez couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Monday morning.
