Border Patrol agents arrested a Salvadoran sex offender Thursday near Hidalgo.

Agents arrested Jose Barahona-Delcid, 34, a citizen of El Salvador — and a sex offender registered with the Virginia State Police.

“Record checks revealed the Defendant was formally Deported/Excluded from the United States on April 28, 20017 (sic) through Alexandria, Louisiana,” according to the federal criminal complaint against him.

Agents also discovered Barahona had a conviction for forcible sodomy, according to the criminal compliant. The Virginia State Police sex offender registry doesn’t list any details about the crime.

“On December 11, 2006 the defendant was convicted of Forcible Sodomy and sentenced to life imprisonment imposed, supervised probation,” according to the federal criminal complaint.

Barahona is now charged with illegal re-entry.

An attorney who represents Barahona didn’t respond to a request for comment. He remains in federal custody.
