Local News

A Border Patrol agent stationed in the Rio Grande Valley Sector is accused of attempted murder.

Monday morning, at a joint press conference, Edinburg Police Department alleged, Ricardo Cepeda Jr, 33, shot his girlfriend twice in the upper torso while holding her 1-year-old baby.

Edinburg Police Department Spokesperson Lt. Oscar Trevino said, Cepeda’s girlfriend, Brenda Hernandez, attempted to end their relationship. Trevino explained, Cepeda then grabbed Hernandez’s infant child and fired two rounds from a pistol. Authorities have not confirmed if the weapon was Cepeda’s government issued firearm. Hernandez is recovering from the gunshot wounds.

Lt. Trevino confirmed Cepeda is set to be arraigned on charges of attempted murder and injury to a child, Monday afternoon.
