Local News

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the man believed to be responsible for the murders of four Texas women, and the kidnapping of another.

35-year-old Juan David Ortiz, a ten year veteran supervisor of the U.S. Border Patrol was formally arrested and charged Saturday afternoon.

This follows a nearly two week murder investigation where two female bodies were found in a rural part of Webb County

The third and fourth victims were uncovered Saturday.

The suspected final and fifth victim is said to have escaped from Ortiz, and alerted the authorities to him.

According to the District Attorney, all the women were prostitutes who were allegedly picked up by Ortiz. Officials say that they do not believe there are any other victims.

Ortiz has been charged with four counts of murder, unlawful restraint, and aggravated assault with a $2,500,000 bond.

Authorities are still investigating the case.
