Bill to address unreported school incidents

Local News

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Texas requires schools to report student discipline, but some parents say not everything gets reported.

A survey by Easter Seals, Texas Appleseed and Disability Rights Texas shows students with special needs are often sent home early, even when they are not suspended.

A mother of one such student says her early pickups often wend undocumented. She feels it kept her son out of the classroom, and in the dark.

They are backing a bill that would require schools to each of those instances.

“If it is a relevant way to manage behavior, it should be documented and it should be transparent, and it’s not at the moment and that’s really problematic.” Says Lisa Flores.

Some school districts say they work hard to partner with parents and are committed to fair practices and consequences for their students.
