Research is underway to determine the impact of Hurricane Harvey in South Padre Island.
As the storm approached the Texas coast, the city was one of the few sites in the valley hit with high winds and heavy rains.
City officials tells us their staff was monitoring the storm and even after passing the monitoring continues.
In the next 2 weeks, South Padre Island expects data on local shores.
“We were sparred a great deal of the impact due to our location and the trajectory of hurricane Harvey. Our beaches only really suffered minor impacts.” says Shoreline Director Brandon Hill.
The shoreline director says a coastal community like South Padre is constantly on alert for natural disasters.
The city opened their beaches two days after the storm left our region.
