Cameron county beach access five is getting two new lifeguard towers.
The towers are now on access five near the main entrance.
These were added as an extra precaution after several reported accidents took place in the three mile un-attended access.
This summer alone, a total of two deaths have occurred in the beach access
Beach Patrol Chief Michael Johnson says, “It’s not necessarily more dangerous than any of the other beaches, but it is a large population beach does not have any lifeguard presence. So now there are 2 lifeguard towers. It’s a small lifeguard presence but it’s better than nothing. And hopefully the county will expand in years to come.”
Cameron county beach patrol asks visitors to exercise caution when driving on this beach access, particularly if you see a lifeguard or tourists running along the shore.
