The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has announced an award winning costume designer for their Distinguished Speaker Series.
The Academy Award-winning costume designer for Black Panther, Ruth Carter will be speaking at the event.
According to the release, Carter was the first African American to receive the “Best Costume Design” Academy Award.
The designer is scheduled to speak on March 2 at the Student Union on the UTRGV Edinburg Campus at 7:30 p.m.
“The committee hopes that through her story she will be able to motivate students to pursue their dreams,” said Cindy Mata-Vasquez, director of UTRGV Student Activities, which sponsors the Distinguished Speakers Series in the release.
This event is free and open to the community. Doors for UTRGV students, faculty and staff open at 7 p.m. with a valid university ID, and 7:15 p.m. for the general public.
