Authorities investigating animal cruelty case that left one dog injured

Deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a case of animal cruelty after one woman found her dog injured in her backyard. 

According to a Facebook post, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at about 7:00 p.m, deputies responded to a call at 3 Mile Line Rd and Bentsen Palm Drive in Mission where the woman said she found her dog in her backyard with an injury to the right leg. The woman also told officers that moments before she found her dog, she heard gunshots.

Deputies searched the area but did not see anyone. Authorities continue to investigate and are searching for witnesses, video surveillance, as well as possible suspects.
