Local News

MCALLEN, Texas – It was an emotional celebration filled with cheers and excitement for McAllen ISD students. It’s that time of year when the district holds their annual Senior Walk.

It began this morning at Ben Milam Elementary as students cheered on the graduating seniors as they made their way around the school. District officials say the walk is meant to show students the importance of staying in school.

One graduate who attended Milam Elementary said it was an honor for her to come back and walk the hallways.

Mariah Moya, graduating senior, “It’s so far away in their minds. It’s important to show that it is attainable and they can reach their goals and their dreams.”

In all, graduating seniors from Mcallen High, McAllen Memorial High, and James Rowe High school visited 19 elementary campuses.
