The largest airline in the free world, American Airlines, has added more flights to the Valley’s largest City.
American Airlines now offers four non-stop flights to and from DFW each day. United Airlines will also add additional flights between Brownsville and Houston’s Intercontinental Airport on May 5th. Passengers can connect to more than 900 destinations worldwide from Houston or DFW .
Brownsville Acting Director of Aviation, Sesha Vorrey, called the development a huge addition to the area’s economy. “Each flight is responsible for more than 200 permanent jobs, in excess of $300,000 in sales tax revenue, and an overall economic impact of 20 million dollars to Brownsville’s catchment area*. The catchment area includes cities and towns from Matamoros to Willacy County including South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Harlingen, and Raymondville.
“We now have as many or more American and United flights as any airport in the region” Vorrey added. Michael Jones, who is responsible for the Airport’s Air Service Development, said “Both airlines expressed strong confidence in the strength of Brownsville’s economy and the region’s growth in reaching their decisions to add flights.”
Brownsville‘s flight schedule begins each day with a 5:15 AM departure to Houston on United Airlines and ends with a midnight arrival from DFW on American Airlines.
