ALTON, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Alton Police Department is investigating a crash that left two dead and one injured Friday morning.
A major crash was reported at 5 Mile Road and Stewart Boulevard in Alton around 1:30 a.m.
According to Chief Jonathan Flores, two vehicles were involved. Preliminary investigation showed that a gray Jeep Compass was stationary at a red light and was struck from behind by a white Ford F150.
Flores confirmed two individuals died at the scene. The victims, who were in the gray Jeep, were later identified as Christopher Moses Garcia, 21, and Karen Espino, 21, according to a press release from the Alton Police Department.
The driver of the white Ford was transported to the hospital where he is recovering from “incapacitating injuries,” the release stated.
The chief added that there is no indication that fog played a factor.
This incident remains under investigation, more details will be released as they become available, according to police.
Until further notice, police ask the public to avoid the area and take Glasscock and 4 Mile Road, Glasscock and 6 Mile Road, Bryan Road and 4 Mile Road, and Bryan and 6 Mile Road as alternative routes.
