Non-profit organizations and the community are raising awareness on the dangers of alcohol abuse and drunk driving.
With prom and graduation season coming up, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is pushing to get everyone, especially teenagers, informed on the risks of drinking.
According to one representative from MADD, last year in Hidalgo County there was a high number of injuries connected to drunk driving.
“The figures for last year, I believe were 54 alcohol related fatalities in Hidalgo County, and around 897 injuries for people involved in alcohol related incidents. It’s important we get the word out,” said Ana Verley.
Later this month, MADD will be hosting Powertalk 21 day where they will be inform parents on the best ways to talk with their children about the consequences of underage drinking.
