Agents rescue 44 people from stash house near Donna

Agents arrested a human smuggler and rescued 44 migrants from a stash house near Donna on Tuesday, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.  

Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector and Rio Grande Valley Sector received a tip that the home was being used to hold migrants. 

Authorities obtained consent to search the home. In the  home, agents found 44 people who admitted to being in the country without authorization. The smuggler, a Mexican citizen, was arrested. 

Those rescued were from various countries including Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. 

The group was processed at the Weslaco Border Patrol station.
