After his fourth drunken driving arrest, the federal government wants to deport a Mexican man for the fourth time.
A state trooper arrested Cresencio Guerrero-Renteria, 54, of Mission — a Mexican citizen who wasn’t lawfully present in the United States — on May 6, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office records.
Guerrero is charged with driving while intoxicated-third or more, a third-degree felony.
He’d already been convicted of drunken driving at least three times since 1992:
- On Feb. 25, 1992, Guerrero was convicted of driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor.
Details about the sentence weren’t immediately available. - On May 17, 2012, Guerrero pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor.
County Court at Law Judge Federico “Fred” Garza sentenced him to 40 days in jail. - On July 1, 2015, Guerrero pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated-third or more, a third-degree felony.
State District Judge Rose Reyna Guerra sentenced him to two years in prison.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Guerrero on Thursday at the Hidalgo County jail.
“Record checks revealed the defendant was formally removed from the United States to Mexico for the third (3rd) time on February 9, 2016 via the Laredo, Texas Port of Entry,” according to the federal criminal complaint against him.
Guerrero is now charged with illegal re-entry.
Court records don’t list an attorney for Guerrero, who remains in federal custody and couldn’t be reached for comment.
