The chill is on in the RGV. Temperatures are dipping drastically, forcing people to grab for their sweaters, jackets and cranking up the heat. It is definitely cold outside. And it feels like it. It’s getting colder as time goes on.
Earlier today, people getting ready for the weather, struggling with their jackets, and covering their mouths. Covering their heads and ears, because of this cold weather. A big factor is the high winds which makes it feel like it’s colder than what it actually is. The National Weather Service, had this to say about this weather.
Barry Goldsmith, NWS, “Bottom line is not unusual to have a cold outbreak in the first 15 days of January. It’s just one that’s just been par for the course over the last several years. And here we go again. We’re back on the roller coaster again next week, just like it is 80 to 85 degrees today, by next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, back into the low to mid 80’s again.”
If you are going to be using space heaters, fire experts recommend that to keep items three feet away so that you don’t cause a fire. Also, animals, take time to acclimate them to the colder as people do. If you do have pets, try to keep them indoors. Try to keep them warm.
