EDINBURG, Texas – A Valley man accused of sexually assaulting children for nearly a decade faces a judge.

53-year-old Luis Nava Jr. could face up to life in prison after multiple children came forward accusing him of molesting them. Now he fears for the repercussions he could face in jail. Nava asked the judge to be secluded away from other inmates in the Hidalgo County Jail. As he fears they will hurt him for what he’s accused of doing.

“He’s facing three counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault with a Child, he’s also facing seven counts of Sexual Assault with a Child, and eight counts of Indecency with a child sexual assault.”

Nava’s request came after inmates waiting in the same courtroom heard Nava’s charges and started making negative comments of how we will be treated in jail. The judge stated it was not up to her to grant that request and Nava would have to speak to the Hidalgo County Sheriff.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, all 18 counts are from nearly a decade ago.

Sgt. Maria Montalvo, Texas DPS, “The time frame is from early 2000 to today. There is a potential that there is other victims out there.”

Information on how Nava came in contact with these children was not revealed. But he was known to be a painter in Mission. Nava’s bond is set at $700,000. His trial is set for January 27th.

If you or someone you know is a victim of Luis Nava Jr., the Texas Rangers urge you to reach out to them at 956-565-7600.
