It’s been a few days since the conclusion of the 2016 Games of Texas, and McAllen City leaders are already looking forward to hosting the event again next year. Nearly 10,000 athletes from all over the state and south of the border participated in multiple competitions throughout the weekend, despite the triple digit heat across the valley.
Organizers of the event say they were pleased with the games this year, but there is plenty of room for improvement for 2017.
Robert Lopez with the McAllen Chamber of Commerce says, “The first year you learn it, and the second year you perfect it, and yeah I think there’s definitely areas to improve. You know, maybe some things like, maybe getting more volunteers the next year. So now that we have some history it’ll be easier to recruit volunteers.”
City leaders in McAllen will meet later this week to discuss other areas of the event that need to be improved for next year’s games.
