7-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition After Fatal ATV Accident

Two children are recovering after a ATV vehicle collision that left a teenage girl deceased.  

The crash occurred Saturday evening on Farm to Market Road 800 and Oyama Road in San Benito. 

14-year-old Esela Lerma was pronounced dead at the scene, the 7 year old passenger is in critical condition while the 10 year old passenger is in stable condition at Valley Baptist. 

According to Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened when a Nissan Frontier was traveling east on F.M. 800 when it collided with the ATV after Lerma missed a stop sign.

Shortly after the fatal accident, DPS sent out a warning on social media, reminding parents to never ride on paved roads except to cross when done safely, and to always have a responsible adult supervising children.
