Driver arrested following fatal auto-cyclist crash in Alamo

Authorities have arrested the driver involved in a fatal auto-cyclist crash on Saturday.

Francisco Hernandez-Muniz of Reynosa, Mexico, was arrested on a on a felony charge of criminal negligent homicide, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS says the crash occurred at about 12:38 p.m. on U.S. Highway 281 Military, east of Green Jay Road.

Preliminary investigation indicates Hernandez-Muniz was traveling westbound in a Kenworth tractor-tanker when he struck the cyclist, identified as 64-year-old Jose Luis Palacios, who was also traveling westbound, according to DPS.

Palacios was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS continues to investigate the fatal crash.

Johnny Hernandez, a spokesperson for DPS, says it’s important for motorists and cyclists to share the road.

Correction: The fatal crash occurred in Alamo, not San Juan.
