The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), College of Engineering and Computer Science and the RGV Regional Science and Engineering Fair Committee are co-hosting the 60th RGV Region Science and Engineering Fair.
According to a release, more than 700 middle and high school students will be competing.
“For some of the children in the Rio Grande Valley, this is an opportunity to begin exploring careers in engineering and science,” said Arturo Fuentes, a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. “It is very important because this may allow them to pursue a career in science and engineering. This may allow them to get scholarships at some point to attend college. So this is a very big deal for some of these students.”
The students participated in their schools and advanced to the regional competition.
The students will be presenting to judges on Saturday.
The top four competitors will pass on to the Texas Science & Engineering Fair, which will take place in March.
The Regional Science and Engineering Fair will take place at the UTRGV Brownsville campus on Feb. 14 and 15 from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
