MCALLEN, Texas – Multiple cities in the Rio Grande Valley join together to tackle dirty streets in the Valley. The goal is to improve ride-ability and increase safety for cyclists. Texas Department of Transportation and many cities in the Valley gathered this morning to remove debris from bike lanes and road shoulders.
It’s all part of their Fifth Annual Operation Clean Sweep initiative.
Veronica Whitaker, city commissioner, “It’s a tough ball game for cyclists and runners because there’s glass, there’s little pieces of wood. There’s just a lot of things that are swept out over to the side of the roads. In order for everybody to be able to ride, to run, to enjoy the road and to share it. It’s important that we take an effort to clean it every year.”
The group cleaned 100 miles of roadway throughout the Valley.
