U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended their largest group of undocumented immigrants so far this year.

Just after midnight on Tuesday morning, McAllen agents working near Granjeno, responded to a report of a large group of suspected undocumented immigrants walking towards the river levee.

Border Patrol said as they were responding, they saw hundreds of people consisting of family units and unaccompanied children cross the river levee.

Agents took 289 undocumented immigrants into custody and transported them to be processed.

In All, according to Border Patrol, the Rio Grande Valley Sector has arrested over 1,000 undocumented immigrants within the last 24 hours.

Border Patrol said in a release in the month of February, agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector apprehended over 14,000 family units and more than 2,900 unaccompanied children.
