Two people are dead following a crash late Saturday night in Hidalgo County.

The crash happened on FM 88, north of Mile 21 Road, after 10:15 p.m. Saturday.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers said a preliminary investigation revealed that a silver Land Rover SUV was traveling northbound on FM 88 when the driver veered off to the right side of the road and struck a mailbox.

That’s when, according to the report, the driver overcorrected, traveled into the southbound lane of FM 88 and collided with a silver Ford Expedition.

Eduardo Mendoza, 25, of Edinburg, and Myra Belcher, 56, of Weslaco, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Texas DPS.
