19-year-old in critical condition following three-vehicle crash in Rio Grande City

A 19-year-old is in the hospital after a three-vehicle crash in Rio Grande City on Tuesday morning.

According to the Rio Grande City Police Department, the crash happened in front of McCoy’s on U.S. Highway 83.

Police said three vehicles, a red Chevrolet Avalanche, a brown Chevrolet Malibu and a grey 18-wheeler. 

Police said the 19-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Malibu is currently in critical condition at McAllen Medical Center. The 28-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche was taken to Starr County Memorial as a precaution but had no major injuries. The 42-year-old 18-wheeler driver had no major injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
