17-year-old charged for taking weapon to a school in Weslaco

A 17-year-old has been charged after taking a weapon inside a school campus in Weslaco on Wednesday. 

Miguel Angel Cardenas was charged with unlawful carry of a weapon, places where weapons are prohibited.

According to records, the mother took the 17-year-old in. 

Cardenas’ bond was set at $60,000. 


Weslaco police arrested a 17-year-old for taking a weapon to school on Friday.

According to police, the subject came in with an adult and was attempting to enroll at the school.

Authorities said the 17-year-old went into one of the restrooms while at the campus.

Police said he showed the weapon to a few students. A student the subject interacted with immediately reported it to a campus officer and Weslaco High School administration.

Authorities were able to quickly confirm that the individual had left campus.

According to officials, they were turned away due to a lack of documentation. 

The 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday and will be arraigned Wednesday.
