U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry arrested a 17-year-old American citizen. The male was returning from Mexico Friday morning in connection with discovery of a loaded firearm and controlled prescription medication during a routine examination.

During a secondary examination, CBP officers discovered under his clothing a loaded firearm and 12 bottles of undeclared Alprazolam (a generic version of Xanax, a controlled prescription medication).

CBP officers arrested the young man and turned him to Weslaco Police Department officers for further investigation on state charges.
