1 killed in crash in Edinburg, another charged with intoxication manslaughter

One woman is dead and another has been charged with intoxication manslaughter charges following a crash early Friday morning in Edinburg.

According to police the accident happened in the 3400 block of North 24th Avenue in reference to a vehicle crash.

When officers arrived, they discovered that a gray Mitsubishi 4-door sedan and a brown 2003 Ford Mustang were involved in a crash.

Police said the crash caused the death of 19-year-old active duty service member, Cassandra Julianne Perez.

The report indicated that Perez was on 24th Avenue standing outside of her stalled vehicle when the driver of the Mustang, Edward Magallan, 25, hit Perez and the vehicle.

Authorities said when they spoke with Magallan, they said he was displaying symptoms of intoxication and was later arrested.

Police added that another person, who was a passenger in the Mustang, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said that Magallan will be charged with intoxication manslaughter on Saturday.
