Lantana Hill complete

News

MCALLEN, Texas – The City of McAllen is celebrating the opening of what could become a treasured spot in the city.

A ribbon cutting ceremony occurred this morning for the opening of Lantana Hill, a 25-feet high natural observation deck located at the McAllen Nature Center.

The deck will provide wildlife viewing opportunities as well as a steep stone walkway that kids can climb.

Funding for the project came from a 2017 online contest prize and a federal grant.

City leaders are praising the efforts of the Parks and Recs Department.

“It’s a wonderful project that we’re so happy to finally have it completed and available for the public. You can come and stand at the top and see our wonderful City of McAllen,” says Tania Ramirez, McAllen Commissioner District 4.

The hill is now officially open to the public. City officials say there has been a lot of interest from people wanting to use the hill. Some of those requests are for wedding proposals.
