Jury selection for accused in strangulation death set for Aug. 8


EDINBURG, Texas – Jury selection in the trial for a man is accused in a strangulation death is set to begin on Thursday, August 8.

37-year-old Juan Manuel Hernandez is accused of murdering his mother’s
care giver 61-year-old Alisa Maria Garza. Back in October of 2017, Hernandez was arrested after he walked into the McAllen Police Department to report that he had found Garza’s body already deceased and wrapped up inside his car.

Garza’s attorney spoke about the case.

Jesse Villalobos, Hernandez’s attorney, “Without a doubt this is a very tragic case. My heart goes out to the family of this lady. I do believe that when all the facts are brought out, I think you’re going to see that there is actually another side to this story. I do believe that my client is not responsible for this lady’s tragic death.”

If convicted Hernandez could face up to life in prison.
