BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, along with RGV Lead hosted a forum to identify and address a workforce shortage in the region.
The “We Grow Our Own” initiative, which kicked off in 2019, aims to identify issues related to education and workforce in order to meet a high demand for industries in dire need of workers.
After a year in review, the groups tell Local 23 that they see signs of progress as regional partners are coming together to address the shortage in skilled industries.
“The fact that we have a whole bunch of partners that have re-aligned their community service into these particular areas helps this community in the long term. So, the message is that together, we can get there quicker,” said Mario Lozoya, of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation.
The agencies identified three fields currently plaguing the region. This included the lack of knowledge of tech jobs available, a skills gap in the workforce, and a lack of internet access in local communities.
